The membership year is a fiscal year that begins each July 1st the current year and ends June 30th the following year.

Membership in NAIW (International) may be accomplished in three ways. Eligibility for active membership is limited to persons employed in the risk management or insurance industries or whose primary function is in risk management support or insurance functions support.  Click on Eligibility for expanded definition.

1. BY JOINING THROUGH A LOCAL ASSOCIATION
An active member is an individual employed in the risk management or insurance fields, who belongs to one of NAIW (International)'s nearly 300 local affiliated associations. This is, by far, the most wide-spread means of attaining membership; these members enjoy the "hands-on" benefits they receive from belonging to a local group which meets regularly and provides networking on a more localized basis. These members automatically belong to the international association through their membership in the local association.

2. BY JOINING AS A MEMBER-AT-LARGE
Many insurance employees, however, cannot or do not wish to belong to a local association. Perhaps they travel and cannot attend local meetings regularly; perhaps they simply don't have the time or interest in becoming involved in local projects and activities; perhaps there is no local affiliate in their geographic area. For these people, membership-at-large is the better approach. This membership category (as with the active membership, available only to those employed in the risk management or insurance fields) provides a membership directly to the international association only, with no local affiliation.

3. BY JOINING AS A COLLEGIATE STUDENT MEMBER
Eligibility to student membership is open to those individuals who are full-time students enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester at a college or university. Belonging to an NAIW (International) Collegiate Chapter gives you a chance to learn about the insurance and risk management industries while enhancing your resume. As an NAIW (International) Collegiate member, you gain access to everyday resources that can help you in the classroom, such as:
           - Scholarship Opportunities
           - A strong foundation for building networking opportunities with industry
             professionals.
